  • Natural solutions for unnatural problems

This past month I have continued exploring my interest in mushrooms and plant communications. Findhorn Foundation Many years ago, I learned about a place called Findhorn in the north of Scotland. The area is now called the Findhorn Foundation and serves as an environmentally conscious, international spiritual community with a holistic education centre. The Foundation’s beginnings started when Eileen and Peter Caddy, their three children, and Dorothy Maclean found themselves in the north of Scotland, in Findhorn, wondering what to… Read more »

  • Building your endurance and strength

Going on six months now, I have been practicing the ancient Chinese wellness practice of qigong (chee-gong). My friend and energy practitioner colleague, Judith Schutz, has taught me the seven-basic moves of Dragon and Tiger. She’s also encouraged me to continue.  Judith no longer has to encourage me – I get it. Before leaving on our holiday in July, I helped our son by working out in his yard. It had been at least two years since I worked in… Read more »

    Long distance healing

A time for healing while sheltering at home By now I know you understand that I read a lot of books, articles, and follow some social media. On social media I share postings on people doing good things in the world and the magic of nature – and trees being my favorite subject. With books and articles, I focus on learning to improve my ability to help others. There are some people I follow, and other authors I discover because… Read more »

    Meditating

Meditating Last May I listened to a lecture on meditation by Nina Fry-Kizler. It was one of the free Friday lectures given by the Institute of Noetic Science (IONS). Fry-Kizler talked about how not all types of meditation suit all people. She walked us through three types of meditation – mindfulness, focused, and movement. Not all meditation involves sitting quietly with your eyes closed. I found the Movement Meditation interesting and invigorating. Nina’s talk got me thinking about meditation in… Read more »

Take a fresh breath; and now jump into an ice bath

Wim Hof It was through my daughter, Tanya, that I first learned about Wim Hof. She suggested I listen to his podcast. I did and became intrigued. The Iceman Known as the “Iceman,” Wim Hof has done many way-out things in the cold: he climbed Kilimanjaro twice in a pair of shorts, ran a marathon north of the Arctic Circle in shorts, swam under a frozen lake in shorts (ok, probably a bathing suit), and he takes frequent ice baths.… Read more »

    on Life. Death. Acceptance.

My December 2020 Message Hello and welcome to the last month of 2020. What an amazing year of change it has been. In last month’s message I touched on how uncomfortable uncertainty makes us feel. Let’s face it, 2020 has been unnerving at its best of times. Life, as we knew it, has changed. The increasing number of people affected by or dying from COVID-19 worldwide got me to thinking about our medical systems and how we approach death in… Read more »

Gratitude in a World of Uncertainty

This was originally published in my November 2020 eNewsletter that I mail through Mailchimp. Enjoy, Ellen Can you believe we are reaching the end of 2020?  November has finally arrived. If you’re like me, this year’s passing comes somewhat of a relief. I am grateful for having survived. Fall Colours As I write this month’s message to you, our leaves here in Toronto continue their spectacular show. The red leaves have mostly dropped, and the yellow leaves shine in their… Read more »
